David Pryde
David Pryde began performing stand-up comedy in Halifax as an alternative to a career in journalism and ironically has kept himself in the news ever since. Mr. Pryde first made his hometown of Montreal proud at Just For Laughs 1999 when he won first prize at the "Comedy Night in Canada" Competition. Since then David has filmed his own special on CTV's "Comedy Now!", performed in two Just For Laughs galas and has made numerous clubs and theatre appearances across Canada, the U.S. and England. He has also branched out beyond stand-up by joining the Montreal improv troupe On the Spot and taking on numerous acting gigs. These include a production of "Glengarry Glen Ross", "The Envelope Plays" at the Wildside Theatre Festival and a run at the Montreal Fringe festival in "Never Surrender: Centaur, Centaur, Centuar!" where he played the title role of "the Centaur". He recently made his sitcom debut as a powerfully awkward tobacco magnate on IFC's "The Festival". He has also written for numerous comedy specials and series like CBC's "This Hour has 22 Minutes". To call David "a little twisted" is to call an empty martini glass "a little dry". He blindsides audiences by bringing absurdist twists to simplistic topics and writing clever, digestible material about topics most comics deem untouchable.
